Abstract

Starting from the book to which the subtitle refers, this brief essay addresses the question of the human and the animal. After considering the conditions that the author of the book proposes for the examination of such question, following the path of Jasques Derrida’s thinking, discussion focuses on the thesis of a “transcendental humanism”, which is put to the test confronting it with two moments of Kant’s critical program, one of them from the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, and the other from the third Critique. In both moments the theme of the human takes on a special relevance, and in the second it would possible to recognize a certain hesitation about the human, expressed in the formula “at the same time animal”.
