Abstract

On October 2002, our department launched a three days campaign called Exposol, directed towards sun exposure awareness and early detection of skin cancer in Santiago. A total of 2378 persons attended to the campaign. 895 patients were evaluated by dermatologists for suspicious lesions, 9% of them presented with skin malignancies clinically. Our findings are similar to those results published in international papers in this field. Skin cancer awareness campaigns may help to decrease the rising incidence in skin cancer, but further additional and continuing efforts need to be done to ensure the message will get to most of the population.
