Abstract

This article presents some considerations about the relationship between the right to the city, gender perspective, and security. The main focus is on the continuum of violence against women and girls which restricts their citizenship, their development, and their liberty. The local governments play a key role in ending violence against women because the manifestations of violence are more evident at the local level. Additionally, the local space represents the origin of omissions and inequalities that are necessary to transform towards inclusive and safe cities. Starting with a brief introduction from each perspective, the article presents some good local practices with the purpose to guide the public local policies to ending gender violence
